Delay.

Sorry guys, nothing new today because all drawing was postponed in order to crank out some final papers. I will have something tasty up tomorrow.

Wednesday is mystery meat.

Or in this case mystery drawing. Just practicing my illusionism.

On the Drawing Board: Tarot Card.

This is my preliminary study for the last assignment in this year's Fantasy Illustration class. My card is number 14 of the major arcana: Temperance. Our instructions are essentially 'draw something cool.' When I do the final painting in color, the lion will be red-line on white, and the eagle will be white-line on red, and the water passing between them will not look like bacon. I must also find a way to make this look less like a postage stamp and more like a tarot card.

A crater and a floaty thing.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Spring Print Exchange 2010.

Every semester, those printmakers who feel they just don't have enough stuff to do form a group and promise to edition a work of personal art in the exact number of group-members, and when finished the prints are traded and everybody gets a stack of cool prints. This year's print exchange theme was 'messages.'

To that end, I invented a company to challenge the bicycle-courier monopoly on same-day inter-city deliveries. My brave new startup is called URBAN-THEROPOD and we use genetically recreated and enhanced dinosaurs to beat the traffic and deliver packages. Visit the website to learn more. All 22 members of the print exchange got an individualized authentic URBAN-THEROPOD parcel containing a tall-format promotional poster, folded twice to fit.

And a detail of the slowpoke biker:

Bonus Update.

I was a little late last week on the updating, so here's a bonus. Can you guess what these are?

My hand-printed colors for the dragon recipes! So bright and pretty.

Dragon Recipes WIP3

Couldn't update yesterday because of scanner issues, and still haven't scanned my recent drawings today, so I'm giving you another color comp. of my dragon recipes. This one is the fried egg dragon.

Dragon Recipes WIP2

A teaser for my dragon-recipes. Since I'm using cut-paper, all three of my designs will use the same pool of colors, pictured above. Here is one of my color sketches. I'm with-holding the other two for now so as not to spoil everything.

Here is a crazy little sketch. It's about time perception, or whatever you want. Your choice. :)

Dragon Recipes

For the remainder of the semester in my illustration concepts class I will be working on a project of my own design: dragon recipe cards. Three kid-friendly cards with instructions on how to cook a dragon's favorite food: eggs. Here are some of my sketches.

site changes incoming

Hello dear readers. Blogspot has added some functionality to their blog templates, giving me more control over the appearance and navigation of this blog. Things may appear different (and possibly broken) as I fiddle with it over the next week. The goal is to migrate my portfolio the sidebar info. into 'pages' and expand the posting column to the width of the main banner. Also, once those changes are complete this blog will be redirecting to a dedicated custom url, which I have already registered. No more long and confusing web address that no one can remember.

update April 4: my URL is now live. forevermore www.ianandrewjackson.blogspot.com will redirect to www.ianonpaper.com. Also, like all good .coms you can skip the www and the internets will know what you want and redirect you here. Because blogspot will redirect you automatically, you don't have to update your bookmarks, but if you're a completionist like me you will update anyways. Now you can tell all your friends about ianonpaper.com. Much easier to remember than before, right?

P.S. still tweaking, bear with me. blogspot doesn't allow me to test-run my changes privately before going live.

Sketchbook.

Some recent pages for you. I mostly just doodle, but here you can see the origins of my strange flora drawings, and my obsession with mark-making.
