My first assignment for this year's core illustration class: Concepts I. This is a five-inch spot for a recent TIME magazine book review of Thomas Pynchon's detective novel "Inherent Vice." TIME magazine used some nonsense stock photo, so our assignment was to make something more appropriate for the review.
